The winds were up and for some reason it was hard to motivate to load up the kayak on top of my truck. Met up with David and we decided to head west to Hagerstown to fish Beaver Creek. I had read on the DNR website that it had been stocked earlier that week.
It was a perfect fall day – bright, clear, a slight breeze, leaves turning and falling, with surrounding corn fields dry and ready to be harvested. It is beautiful country up there. Missed a fish on my first cast. Ended up spooking an enormous rainbow – I got so close I could see the spots on its back.
I am always struck by the amount of vegetation in this stream. It is extremely healthy with lots of baitfish, scuds, and cress bugs. I didn’t see a lot of fish rising though I saw some sporadic hatching, but nothing heavy or regular.
I need some more dry flies and need to be more delicate with my casting.
